In Ayurveda raw fruits are meant to be consumed away from any other foods. However, if we cook fruits into other dishes, it is considered to be an acceptable combination. Enjoy a slice of this simple dessert as part of your lunch, when your digestion is at its strongest. If I add a sweet treat like this one to a meal, I usually begin with it.
Great for lunchboxes.
Apple Slice
A quick dessert, full of natural sweetness.
Ingredients
- 3 medium sweet apples, peeled and grated coarsely
- 1 1/2 cup oat or barley flour - I grind 1 cup of oat groats or pearl barley
- 2 tbsp water
- 2 tsp ghee
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- a little white rice flour - optional
Instructions
- Mix all the ingredients and press the mixture into a glass baking tray or dish with a back of a tablespoon.
- Optionally, dust the top of the mixture with a little white rice flour. It will create an effect of icing sugar, which looks very appetizing.
- Bake for ten minutes in 220 C / 430 F fan oven or 240 C / 460F conventional oven. (Alternatively, use lower temperatures but cook for longer.)
- Take out of the oven and cut into squares directly in the glass tray. Let them cool before adding to another container or a lunchbox.
